Letters from Marisòla

Somewhere on the eastern coast of Sicily — not on any map you are likely to own — there is a small town called Marisòla. It has a harbour, a bar, a beach that nobody uses, and a lighthouse that works when it wants. The population is approximately three thousand. There has been no mayor since 1974. Nobody has found this problematic.

This summer, Houses & Art publishes a series of eight essays from Marisòla. They are written by Osalio Verbino — a fictional essayist created for Houses & Art by Anna Posa. He lives in the imagined Villa Verbino on the eastern cliffside, walks to Bar del Corso every morning with his dog and two indifferent cats, and writes about memory, objects, and Mediterranean life. His way of writing is measured, unhurried, and occasionally dry. He considers this a reasonable approach.

The series is called Letters from Marisòla. Eight essays, published every Tuesday from 30 June through 18 August 2026.
